Work as a production assistant in Los Angeles (or anywhere) is extremely competitive. And if you’re one of those people, here is one piece of advice that can’t be ignored. The most important skill for people seeking jobs as production assistants is SPEED. Take a look at these two emails I recently received:
See that? It took less than 20 minutes for someone to send two emails: one asking for resumes and one saying they’re no longer accepting them. What does this mean for someone looking for work?
- Your resume should always be updated and ready. If you’re unemployed, this should be a no-brainer. But even if you are employed, a better job offer may come your way and you need to make sure you’re ready for it.
- Figure out a way to be FAST. If I get an email asking for my resume and I’m at Target shopping for groceries, I can open a new email and attach my most recent resume via Dropbox on my phone. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, figure it out. There’s no “waiting until I get home” or “this episode of Parks and Rec is almost over.”
Remember, you don’t need to be the fastest. You just need to be one of the five fastest. Good luck.
